jubilee 150x150 Queens Diamond Jubilee Street Party at the Society of Genealogists   1 June

Help us celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubille by joining us for cakes and refreshments. Everyone is welcome, there will be  flags, crayons, etc for the children, 11.00- 14.00pm (rsvp not necessary).

Please note the street party will take place in front of the Society’s premises at 14 Charterhouse Buidlings. The library will be closed for research (as normal)

apprentice 300x247 My Ancestor was an Apprentice   A half day course 9 JuneWe all have apprentices amongst our ancestors. They have left many records which can be used to fill in the background to their lives. Stuart Raymond will outline the history of apprenticeship, describe the records available, and give you hands on experience of extracting information from an apprenticeship indenture.

Participants in this course will acquire an appreciation of the information that can be found in apprenticeship records, and will know what to look out for in their personal research. A half-day course from 2-5pm,  £17.50/£14.00 SoG Members.

In a new BBC TV series presented by Michael Wood, The Great British StoryBBC GBSLogo BBCBlocks web thumb Society of Genealogists taking part in The Great British Story   Bexley 23 June 2012 looks at history through the eyes of ordinary people, uncovering what life was like for everyday Britons over the last 1600 years. The Society of Genealogists will be taking part in the largest of the local BBC road-shows linking in with the series.
